Capacity

I learnt to estimate the capacity of an object. Capacity is measured in Milliltre (ml) and Litre (l).

First we got into partner we used whiteboards to estimated how much the capacity of a container, can, and a cup is.

Next we estimated how much capacity is it of objects like pool, bucket, and teapot.

Last we made a DLO about explaining what is a capacity.

I enjoyed this task because it was hard and I never knew what capacity. I need to improve on estimating capacity. I did well on explaining what capacity is.

Converting Grams to Kilograms

I learnt how to convert grams to kilograms.

First we had 1 person in our group and had to convert grams to kilograms. Converting gm (grams) to kg (Kilograms). 1 kilogram is 1000, 1 grams is 1. To make 1 kg. There has to be 1000 grams to make a kilogram. If you want to make 2 kilograms you will need 2000 grams.

Then we made a DLO explaining how to convert grams to kilograms. For example: if you want to convert 9.75kg into grams. 9 is 9000, point 7 is 700, 5 is 50. So you need 9750g to make 9.75kg.

Lastly for the DLO we made a example. My example is, if there is 25.195kg and you want to convert it into grams. The 25 is thousands, 1 is 100, 9 is 90, and 5 is 5. So you need 25,195g to make 25.195kg.

I enjoyed this task because I never knew how to convert grams to kilograms. I need improve on writing my example. I did well on explaining how to convert grams to kilograms.

Time

We learnt how to read the time difference.

First we had to tell what the time was.

Next we thought about the time because the clock didn’t tell us the time. So we read the hour hand and the minute hand. For example: 6:15 and 7:26 the time between them is 50 minutes.

Last we made a DLO to explain and tell what the time difference is.

I enjoyed this task because I couldn’t tell the time difference to a digital clock. I did well on explaining what the time difference is. I need to improve reading the minute hand.

Prototec

We practiced our basic facts on a website called prototec.

First we got into prototec and were assigned to what stage we were in. I was in stage 7. We were doing the timed sheet. It was hard because I never knew lots of the answers. The year 4’s were on stage 5, year 5’s were on stage 6, and the year 6’s were on stage 7.

Next we did the same but it was different because it wasn’t a timed sheet. It was just a normal sheet. This was easy because we got to take our time answering the questions and didn’t have time to answer the questions.

Last we got the wrong answers and wrote it in my maths book. We wrote in an algorthim.

I enjoyed this task because I never knew my basic facts. I need to improve on answering the questions faster on the timed sheet. I did well at taking my time while answering the questions on the non timed sheet.

Fractions

I completed three activities called fractions, equivalent fractions, and improper fractions.

First I completed the fraction activity. I matched the symbol with the picture of the fraction.

Next I completed the Equivalent Fraction activity. I also matched the symbol with the picture but this one was harder than the first one.

Lastly we completed the improper fractions activity. I drew a picture, solved it with numbers, and wrote the answer in a sentence. For example: Billy Bob had ½ a piece of cake. Meghan had 2 ½ cakes. Emily had 1 ½  cakes.

I enjoyed this task because the I thought that equivalent fractions were the same as improper factions. I need to improve on my solving the question with numbers. I did good at writing the answer in a sentence.

Fractions

We learnt simple unit fractions.

First we learnt the difference between 2 groups and groups of 2. 2 groups are a even numbers cut in half. Groups of 2 are objects in a group in twos.

Next we learnt what a fraction is and what it has. A fraction has a numerator and a denominator. A numerator tells how many equal parts of the whole or collection you have.  The denominator is how many equal parts the whole has been cut into.

I enjoyed this task because I learnt difference between 2 groups and groups of 2. I need to improve on explaining what a fraction is. I did well on explaining the difference between 2 groups and groups of 2.

Place Value

Today we learnt our place value and number bonds.

First we played a game so we remember our number bonds. Number bonds is a simple addition of two numbers that add up to give the sum.

Then we used a site that was about number bonds. We had to choose a number that was a 4 digit. For example 2321.

Lastly we had to find out how many tens were in the hole number. We also had to find out how many hundreds were in the hole number.

I enjoyed this task because I learnt a trick to find how many tens and hundreds there are in the hole number. I did good at finding the tens and hundreds in the hole number. I need to improve on adding the number because I always add the number like number bonds.
