Leaders we Admire

LI: to visualise your goals

For this task we wrote about the leaders we admire. The leaders I admire is Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parkes. These people are famous for their civil war. Martin Luther King Jr is a person whos race was black, but other people didn’t like him because he had a different race as them, so he made a protest to let people with a different skin colour to have freedom. Rosa Parks sat on a white people only bus and sat there.

Vision Board 2024

LI: to visualise your goals

For this task we made a vision board about our goals and the person we wanted to be when we are grown up. The person I chose was David Tua. David Tua is a Samoan boxer from Apia. (Capatial Samoa). David Tua is a very famous boxer in New Zealand for being famous in the Olympics. The collage I want to get into is Dilworth.

I enjoyed this task because I got to explain about the person I want to be.

My Pepeha

LI: to write and say our pepeha

To help us get to know each other, we have written our pepehas. This allows us to make connection and form friendships.

I found this activity fun because we got to get into groups and say it out to each other and form friendships.

Market Day

LI: to create a DLO about Market Day

Technology unit were used for posters to make them colourful. The technology unit was for advertising. Some of the class’s had their advertising posters all around the school.

Market poster for each class were bright, colourful, jazzy, flashy, multicolor, and etc.

The design process had many types of designs like: colourful, glittery, and etc.The marketing had people buying things from there stall. The selling process of the each market stall had people advertising their amazing things that each class made.

The product of the market day had many different types of things that people wanted to buy, but my favourite was Room 1’s slime because it was made as perfection. The only thing that was bad about the sells is that, there wasn’t that much slime or playdough. LS2 had harakeke packets and had buy 1 get 1 free.

I enjoyed this activity because it was creative of thinking about having a fun time at Market day.

Celebrating Diwali

LI: To use your smart searching skills to find out what Diwali is and how people celebrate around the world.

Our challenge was to write create a DLO that tells others what Diwali is and how people celebrate around the world. Something I found interesting was the colourful designs/patterns because it stood out to me because the colours were bright and bold.

I found this activity fun because I loved the story behind Diwail and the colourful patterns.

Taniwha Art Moka-Ika-Hikuwaru

LI: To learn about the traditional history of the Tamaki River.

Moka-Ika-Hikuwaru is a taniwha that lives within the panmure. This taniwha had eight tails. Our design of Moka-Ika-Hikuwaru is, he is doing a pukana, and the sun doing a pukana like in the story of Maui and the sun. The pattern on its face has little hearts on the eyes and the mouth. To shows it love. The little design on its body is a sympol of the water flowing left to right. The coloured of the background shows that the green is that the taniwha is on land and the blue is the sky.

I found this activity diffcult because I didn’t know how to draw a taniwha from my mind and we wasn’t allowed to trace the taniwhas design.

Kauri Dieback

LI: To gather statistics and protect the Kauri Tree from getting the Kauri Disease.

The following week after camp we did a research about the Kauri Dieback. Then we created a DLO about the Kauri Disease on how we can prevent it from destroying our nature. Though we can do things such as using wash station and spraying the chemical on the bottom of your shoe to stop the disease from killing our tree.

I found this activity fun because we got to see a Kauri tree and find interesting facts about Kauri tress. One of the facts is: Tane Mahuta is a Kauri tree.

Dot to Dot Connections – Treaty of Waitangi

LI: LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you have made.

To help us strengthen our connections to the Treaty of Waitangi we worked collaboratively to draw lines between words we thought connected. The example I have chosen to share is the connection between missionaries and Henry Williams. These words have a connection because Henry Williams was one of the missionaries who translated the Treaty from English into Maori. This is important because it was the errors in translation that caused problems going forward.

This activity was interesting because I was able to see the connections I have made to the topic.

What is a River?

LI: To identify and describe the features of the Tamaki River

This week we have been learning about what rivers are, their unique attributes and how to label them. We then created a DLO about the Tamaki river and its history. Did you know that the Maori would drag their boats over the North Cape. Using our knowledge that we acquired, we showcased the features of the Tamaki river using an aerial map. We then compared the Tamaki River with a prominent river in the world. Our group chose to look at Congo River. Finally we made a comparison of the two rivers.

We found this activity interesting and challenging because my group and I made a presention about a labeled Tamaki River map.

Treaty of Waitangi

LI: To explore the world in 1840 and the art of the Treaty.

This week we looked at the what the world was like in 1840. One fact about the world in 1840 is, the first ever photo was taken in 1840. After this we identified some of the key people and their role in the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. Something I found in the photo is, a person pointing towards the person that is signing the Treaty of Waitangi, looks like he doesn’t want to sign the Treaty of Waitangi because of his body language.

However the painting was made in 1938 and the Treaty of Waitangi was signed 98 years later. The painting was made by Marcus King. I found this really interesting because I learnt that I can infer images just by looking at them and using the prior knowledge and infer what the people in this paniting are doing.
